The company began in the tiny French village of Audun le Tiche where Francois Boch set up a pottery company with his three sons in 1748. Almost two decades later, in a climate of unsettling political turbulence, the Bochs decided to move to Luxembourg. The merger in 1836 of another well-established potter Nicolas Villeroy, who specialized in engraved decoration of landscapes and other detailed scenes yielded the company as it is known today.
Villeroy & Boch is the world’s largest manufacturer of ceramics. The enterprise owes its position among the few "global players". Villeroy & Boch, however, stands for more than tableware, tiles and ceramic sanitary ware. The company has not only written industrial history, but has also helped considerably to fashion the European style of table, bathroom and home décor, while setting the course for an improvement in living conditions of many people.
Looking back on the company's 256-year history, it is easy to recognise an enthusiasm to explore and a joy in experimenting which led to epochal innovations in the areas of production techniques and product aesthetics. Today, the eighth generation family members continue to manage the company and remain actively involved. Inherited from their ancestors is the same spirit of discover, innovation and progress.
Villeroy & Boch tableware was launched in India by The SPA Group with the unveiling of its first exclusive boutique in Hyderabad in 2006 followed by another boutique in Mumbai in 2007. Also on the anvil are launch of boutiques in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata.
